Please do not prompt my system to go into Twitchy Stressbunny mode without an actual reason. Presently, I have no such reason: all the stuff on my side for the event Saturday is in progress, I have transportation sorted, seed cash for the gate is sorted, handwashing clothes is sorted, I don't actually have to do anything there except count money and handle receipts at the end, I will probably be able to pick up stuff for the quarterly report there and if not there is still a week to sort it which is more time than I usually have, my in-person class requirements are all taken care of, and we actually figured out how to get through October without spending more money than we have left, which means that even if we wind up with a layoff week in November and two in December we should be able to just barely scrape through the year, which is better than we'd expected.

And yet my gut is knotted up and there are still cold streaks going down my spine and I can't stop looking over my shoulder despite there being nobody else on this floor of the building.

Kindly turn down my overreaction, please.

Thank you, ip

(Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] ladielazarus. Artist names left out to conceal exactly how much of my sorry music library on this computer is Leonard Cohen or Deathboy. Okay, only a third of it. Also, as usual not tagging anyone in specific.)

1. Put Your iTunes on Shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. You must write down the name of the song no matter how silly it sounds!
4. Put any comments in brackets after the song name.
5. Tag at least 10 friends
--------------------------

What do your friends think of you?
"Bird on a Wire"

If someone says, “Is this okay?” You say
"Money and Confidence"

How would you describe yourself?
"The Blue"
(... well, that's encouraging.)

What do you like in a guy/girl?
"RTTDF"

How do you feel today?
"Mad World"

What is your life’s purpose?
"Red Sky at Night"
(... OKAY OKAY I WILL FINISH MAKING UP MY MIND AND FINALLY POST THE SECOND CHAPTER I PROMISE)

... wow this is spammy )

Me, to my husband: "Darling, thank you for writing 'antihistamines' on the shopping list, but you should know it's not spelled 'antihusbands.'"

My husband, to me, in the store: "They said 'there's a lot in the aisle,' but apparently what they meant is 'go back to the aisle and we will find someone who will dig the last dusty cobwebbed box out of the back storeroom and haul it out to you on a rickety wheeled plank.'"

Us, to a friend we haven't seen in months: "HI! How're you doing!"
Friend: "I'm getting divorced. I'm losing the house." *pause* *gleeful:* "It's GREAT!"

Fictime again :D For [livejournal.com profile] ladielazarus's birthday, I pulled ten sets of three random selections from her prompt list, and wrote nine linked Pryde & Wisdom ficlets out of them. (The tenth set did not get written, since I couldn't make the moods mesh, but most of it wound up in the fic at one point or another anyhow.) Quick thanks to [livejournal.com profile] evilbeej for doing a speed-beta, and to [livejournal.com profile] kelen for playing reference when I couldn't find my copies of CB&MI13 #12.

I can now honestly say that I have broken into a car armed only with a lucet fork.

This is a side benefit of string addiction I had not previously considered.

(... yes, the car was mine, I'd locked my keys in it.)

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] epeeblade:

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section. (examples: "Five Things Bill Denbrough Remembers About His Childhood", or "Five Things Parker Decided Not to Steal" or "Five Things Jessica Will Never Tell Grady"). Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Serious or fun!

(Yes, I know, I still owe a response to the last open call I posted. [livejournal.com profile] deireanach, you have this habit of making me write longfics when I mean to write short ones! I blame it on your having, you know, interesting ideas. :D )

Back in the land of electricity, Internet, and hot showers.

Oh, God, hot showers.

There is so much iron in the water where I've been, my fingernails are ORANGE.

Still doing relatively little typing after racking up my shoulder this week -- the bouts of tingling and numbness in my hand are no longer occurring, but I'm trying not to take chances.

This is apparently not keeping MY OWN PLAYLIST from teaming up with [livejournal.com profile] deconcentrate and nagging me.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] terrasias, something we haven't done in a while: Randomise your playlist. Write the artist and title of the first 15 songs that come up (no editing, no cheating).

1) Jefferson Starship -- The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood
2) Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros -- Mondo Bongo
3) Deathboy -- Bugs
4) Leonard Cohen -- Closing Time
5) Jeff Buckley -- Corpus Christi Carol
6) Shadow Freaks -- DeadLife
7) Elvis Costello -- (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea
8) John Lennon -- Whatever Gets You Through The Night
9) The Psychedelic Furs -- Pretty in Pink
10) The Cure -- Why Can't I Be You?
11) John Lennon -- Give Peace A Chance
12) The Sex Pistols -- God Save The Queen
13) Leonard Cohen -- Take This Longing
14) The Pogues -- Metropolis
15) David Gilmour -- Red Sky At Night

Good night, David Eddings. I spent ten years yearning earnestly for a silver streak in my hair because of you.

Glasses: Located.

Wheat issues: Figured out that I was getting contamination off stuff in the area courtesy my husband's Sun Chip habit. Doing better.

Sleep: Still not so hot, plus the bonus of apparently pulling something in my back during my sleep last night -- again. Breathing should not go "ow". Going to be using a different bed tonight and figuring out what to do about it long-term in a couple of days.

Tomorrow: ... we have a free night at a hotel in Canada. JACUZZI YAY.

Sunday: I am fairly sure I have a CRAPLOAD of @mail to catch up on. Let's see if I can actually get it dealt with. (I managed to write yesterday for the first time in quite a damn while, so there is at least a chance!)

Today is April 2.

Two weeks from today is my last working day of the season.

Two weeks from Saturday is Coronation.

After that I will begin to recover.

THANKGOD.

Morning: spent limping around, swearing at my hip and leg, trying futilely to get things done.

Early afternoon: spent driving around to pick up people's tax forms.

2:45 PM: I open the mail.

My mail:

A check.

A copy of Ravens in the Library.

And an original Mike Collins sketch of Spoiler.

I no longer care that my hip and leg are malfunctioning... :D :D :D

Chapter 2: Draft complete. Waiting for an opinion on part of it, but that opinion will not be available till Monday at soonest, and even if it passes without significant changes I'll still need to run at least one more editing pass. Rrrr.

Chapter 3: Started writing first draft on the afternoon of the 24th. ... finished writing first draft on the afternoon of the 27th. Somehow chapter 3 took literally one tenth the time to write that chapter 2 did. I am vaguely tempted to blame Faiza and Blade. Still needs a couple of bits of fact-checking and, yes, at least one editing pass.

Chapter 4: Remember when I said I wasn't going to make any effort to check on continuity in other X-books? ... apparently I partially lied. To myself. RESEARCH AHOY.

Chapter 5: ... there will probably be one. Apparently this is going to be a little longer than I thought.

Occurred to me last night that I forgot to actually post this thing on my own LJ versus the comm. So, uh, here! Second chapter currently about 1/3 of the way through, I think.

Title: Red Sky At Night (part 1 of three or four)
Fandom: Captain Britain and MI-13
Rating: R or thereabouts
Disclaimers and Notes: (1) Marvel's, not mine -- all characters, and especially the lines quoted from CB&MI13 #9. And oh thank you Marvel for Paul Cornell. (2) I am making relatively little attempt to catch up on current canon; Captain Britain and MI-13 for the win, and I picked up the "Unstoppable" arc of Joss Whedon's Astonishing, but otherwise, continuity errors are likely to be rife. (3) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] evilbeej for a very quick beta; anything that still doesn't make sense is totally my fault, not hers.

Summary: Pete Wisdom's always been given to bad dreams; tonight's no exception, and an unwelcome visit from an old acquaintance doesn't look to make things much better.

"You did *ask* for a second boon." )

Usually, Pryde and Wisdom fanfic.

From the most recent LJ news post:

In order to make sure each area has great content, recent public posts are analyzed electronically and then placed into the areas where they best fit, if there is indeed such an area. (Not all entries will necessarily appear in an explore area.) The feed of posts is updated constantly, so you can refresh the page to see new entries as they are posted. In some areas, you will also see featured content that the LiveJournal staff found to be timely, interesting, or well-written. As of today, we have featured content picked by the staff in both Entertainment and News & Politics, with more featured content to come.

(...)

First of all, let us reassure you that the only entries that will ever appear in the explore areas are public entries. However, you will have a few options if you don't want a post of yours to be included in the explore areas. You can remove individual posts that are currently appearing in an explore area by clicking on the delete button next to that entry. This will not delete your entry from your journal; it will only remove it from appearing in that explore area. If you want all of your public entries to be excluded from the explore areas, you may opt-out by going to Viewing Options and checking the box labeled "Explore Area Exclusion." Journal entries posted as private or friends-only are automatically excluded, but this will also exclude your public entries from the explore area.

I half wonder why they didn't either make it opt-in (too little content, probably), or auto-opt-out people who don't want their public posts indexed by search engines. Or just link those two options. Then again, nothing on the Internet is actually private...

(Also, yes, for anyone wondering, my laptop is still down, and therefore I have only awkward and slightly painful access. Mutter.)
