Fic: Thirty-One Decembers (#3)
Who: Kitty Pryde, Xi'an Coy Manh
Set: Later in Chicago, after the start of the Infamous Bar Job
Disclaimer: Marvel's.
"I'm uncertain how you can wear those pants in December. Aren't they a little..." Xi'an let the question trail off, with an upward turn of her hand. Snowflakes clung to her glove.
Kitty pulled her coat defensively around her. "Cold?"
Xi'an chose delicacy. "Drafty?"
Echoes of a more embarrassing exchange. "You've been talking to Kurt," Kitty accused
"No, Kitty. I've been looking at you wearing an outfit that leaves the outer halves of your legs uncovered from knee to hip." Xi'an gestured downward. (Kitty tugged her coat again: reflex.) "Now, I do realize you used to wear genuine tights with one of your costumes, but really..."
Time to go on the offense. "Shan, I'm ashamed of you! Looking? At me? What would your new girlfriend say!"
"Kitty!" The gasp came with a blush, and Xi'an stepped out of the doorway and onto the sidewalk, glancing left and right for the girl in question. "There isn't a call to --"
"I know, I know," Kitty soothed. "Christine may not be the brightest bulb in the wet paper bag, but one thing she's not is jealous."
"She's perfectly bright!" Xi'an protested.
"Shan, she's dating you because she likes anime."
The Vietnamese girl looked uncomfortable. Quiet and snowfall reigned for a few seconds, till their topic caught up with them and launched brightly into an attempt to start a discussion all her own. "So! Kitty! What decorating are you doing for Christmas this year?"
Xi'an gave a pleading be-gentle-with-her look. Kitty wondered whether it was possible to have a conversation consisting entirely of awkward silences.
