Sometimes the amazing thing about the English language is that, even when no words are or could ever be sufficient, we still manage to get enough of the idea across that -- no matter how clumsy and fumbling the attempt -- the essence somehow manages to come through.

Maybe it's only because we all know that, sooner or later, it's going to be our turn to hurt that much; and that, sooner or later, we're going to be the ones looking on, and knowing helplessly that words aren't enough.

Maybe someday all the words that mean the same thing and still aren't damn well enough -- commiserate, condolence, sympathy -- will get replaced by something that finds a way to say, "I hurt with you," and makes it mean enough to make the pain a little less.

I hope.

I think what matters is not, is never the language. What matters is the soul behind the words, which will be seen no matter which ones you spackle together to mean this unnameable thing. I do not think that, in your case, the intent will ever be in doubt. ♥

Very well said, by both of you.

It's always worked, whenever you've given the words to me -- your intent shines through, and perhaps it's that that makes a difference.

And when you offer it, it does, in fact, make the pain a little less.

*hugs* Hope you're doing well.
